Sony iPhone / iPod Clock Radio Speaker Dock Review

Sony Dock

How many times have you woken up exhausted in the morning to a loud, “DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN” from your alarm clock? The sound most traditional alarm clocks make are good at two things – waking you up, and putting you in an irritated bad mood. Seriously, what will put you in a bad mood more quickly than an annoying alarm clock when you’re already tired?

So what is the solution? The solution is not using a traditional alarm clock at all. The solution is stepping into the modern age, and investing in a Sony Clock Radio Speaker Dock for your iPod or iPhone. Here is our review on the Sony ICFC11IP Lightning iPhone/iPod Clock Radio Speaker Dock.

Design

While the design of the Sony Speaker Dock isn’t its most important aspect, it’s still something worth considering. After all, the dock will likely end up on a shelve or end table somewhere, meaning you’ll end up looking at it more than when you’re just using it. Fortunately, it looks fairly nice, having a sleek, modern look. The unit is mainly black, with a calm blue screen on the front. This makes it easy to look at in the dark, and will not wake you up or blind you while looking at your clock in the middle of the night. On the side of the Sony Clock Radio Speaker Dock, you’ll find control buttons – although the dock also includes a remote control, so you can adjust your music from across the room. This is really convenient, as who wants to get up every five minutes to change the song?

The product weighs in at just under 2 pounds and is only 8 inches long, meaning it can be setup almost anywhere and transported very easily. Best of all, it features a built in battery, so you don’t have to reprogram it every time it gets unplugged. This makes it one of the best portable iPhone / iPod clock docks around if you intend to travel with it!

Functionality

The Sony iPhone Clock Speaker Dock has two main functions, serving as an alarm clock and a speaker for music playback. It handles both tasks very well, for being such a cheap product. The clock is easy to program, and gives you multiple options for waking you up. While you still have the traditional sounds, you also have the ability to be woken up to your favorite radio station, or music from you iPod or iPhone.

The alarm is also a fairly good volume for a speaker of its size. While it’s certainly not made to be used at loud parties, it’s loud enough for several people to listen comfortably at social events. Even when turned up loud, the sound doesn’t become distorted which is an issue for a lot of speakers in this price range. This is a huge plus, as it allows use for the dock outside of your own bedroom. There’s a reason so many people love it! In fact…

Conclusion

If you’re looking to begin each day in a better mood, and you’re looking for a portable music speaker for your iPhone or iPod, it doesn’t get much better than this. Remember, this dock only works for devices that use the lightning adapter – this means the new iPods and the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, and 6 only. If you own an older model iPhone or iPod, you should consider alternatives (such as the iHome IP10).

Anyhow, the Sony iPhone/iPod Clock Radio Speaker Dock is one of the best products in its price range, and fully deserved all of the good reviews it has gotten.
