With the release of the iPhone 3GS, as well as the iPhone 4S, we can never be sure what the next iPhone would be called. We’ve assumed for a while that the next iPhone would be called the iPhone 5S, however Apple has hinted at us earlier today that our assumptions may have been wrong.
Earlier today, Apple updated several of their applications on the App Store. Among this update, the patch notes say that the applications are now compatible with the iPhone 6 – which has not yet been released. The next iPhone will be announced on September 10th.
However, we can’t be sure that this is necessarily conclusive. We’re humans, and we all make mistakes. It’s also important to note that different regions show different text. For example, the New Zealand App Store notes that the app was updated for the iPhone 7, which we won’t be seeing any time soon.
Regardless of whether the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6, we’ll know for sure when it’s announced on September 10th.
