Have you ever dreamed of being on a game show? What if I told you that it was now possible, all because of an app on your phone? What if I told you that you could be flown to a giant hourglass shaped structure in New York for the chance to win up to 10 million dollars?
The Million Second Quiz allows you to do just that.
The Million Second Quiz is a revolutionary new game show that lasts for exactly that long – one million seconds, which turns out to be nearly 12 days. Within the game show, players are able to compete with each other, answering trivia questions and earning $10 for every second they are in the ‘money chair’, which in theory, allows participants to win up to $10 million dollars.
Last Monday, August 12th, NBC released the Million Second Quiz application for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Within the app, users are able to compete against friends or strangers from around the country in 10 question challenges.
By answering questions correctly, and by winning games, users can accumulate points. Accumulate more than 3,500 points, and you will have the chance to become a ‘line jumper’, someone who will get flown to New York for a chance to compete on the actual show. There will be one line jumper per episode, and one of those people could be you.
But the fun of the app isn’t over once you reach 3500 points. If you want some extra incentive to keep playing (not that you’d need it, the app is incredibly addicting), we’ve been told that it’s easier to get noticed if you have a very large amount of points – many people already have over 50,000, more than 10x the amount that is required. Having a large amount of points however does not guarantee a spot on the show, as there’s a lot of different criteria and factors that play into deciding who gets chosen.
Our editors have played The Million Second Quiz for a while now, and we’ve yet to come across the same question twice. The database of questions within the app is huge, and we’ve been told that even more are on the way.
But the thing that really makes The Million Second Quiz great is how you as a viewer can interact with the show using the app.
When the show launches on September 9th, the Million Second Quiz app will be more than just a game – it’ll be a tool you can use to interact with the show while it’s live.
While you’re watching the show, you’ll be able to receive and answer the same questions as the participants, and your actions will be synchronized to the show live – something that has never been done before on television.
But the app isn’t limited to just that. Because the show runs for nearly 12 days straight, NBC wouldn’t be able to air it on television for that long. Instead, there will be a one hour segment of the show each day, but within the app, you’ll be able to continue watching it for the other 23 hours each day until the show is over.
The combination of a show that lasts nearly 12 days straight and a mobile app that lets users participate with the show itself is something that truly makes The Million Second Quiz revolutionary. The show premiers on NBC Monday, September 9th, and the app is available for download now. An Android and web app for The Million Second Quiz are in production now and should be released soon.
