When we sell an electronic device, that once held personal information, the last thing we want to do is have it be restored by someone bad, and exploited. We hear all the time about how people’s credit cards are being stolen after failing to wipe their computer’s hard drive properly, and the same thing is possible with an iDevice. Luckily, wiping an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch clean is a pretty easy process.
You can now do this directly on the device. Simply open up the Settings application, navigate to General, then Reset, and then click on Erase All Content And Settings. If you have a passcode lock enabled, you will be prompted to enter it before continuing. Once you’ve done that, it may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to wipe your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch clean.
Make sure the device has a decent charge before starting this process. If it doesn’t, plug it in. The device can still charge while its hard drive is being wiped.
